This Outside IP service is specificly made available for legacy PurDigital / Biltmore Communicaitons MultiFamily sites. In these sites, DirecPath offers a secured, fire-walled Internet service by default - protecting subscribers from many of the threats that exist on the Internet today including Viruses and Worms. In some cases, certain VPN or Gaming applications may not work properly behind the DirecPath firewall in this configuration, creating a need for Outside IP service as described below.
DirecPath offers a complimentary Dynamic Public IP Service (Outside IP Service) which allows users that reside in Legacy PurDigital / Biltmore Communications multifamily communities to obtain a dynamic, public IP address using a Microsoft Point-to-Point Tunneling (PPTP) Protocol connection. Once configured, this service allows subscribers to instantly bypass the private IP addresses and firewall features on the PurDigital network using a PPTP gateway.
The service is bound by the following limitations:
- Only users with private addresses on the legacy PūrDigital / Biltmore Communicaitons networks may connect to the gateway. Users with STATIC - PUBLIC IP addresses cannot access this service and do not need to use it.
- MacOS versions prior to OS X. These versions require a proprietary, commercial PPTP client to access this service.
- UNIX or Linux. Most modern Linux distributions include software for connecting to PPTP servers, but this is not supported by PūrDigital Media.
- ss the Outside-IP service. The username and password will be your authentication credentials when logging into the Dynamic Public IP Service, and are the same as your E-mail UserID and Password.
